Oak Brook Terrace is on the site

Oak Brook Terrace FPD patchAnother department within MABAS Division 12 has recently been added to the website. The Oak Brook Terrace Fire District serves a small but densely populated area of 2.5 square miles, operating out of a single fire station. Their team is made up of both full-time and part-time firefighters, and the station is well-equipped with a variety of apparatus. They have two fire engines, a tower ladder, two ambulances, a TRT trailer, and a utility pickup. Recently, they introduced a brand new Spartan/Marion engine, marking a shift in their fleet from white-over-red to black-over-red color schemes. The other engine and tower ladder are both E-ONE units, while the ambulances were manufactured by Medtec.

Chicago is famous for being the birthplace of the Snorkel in the fire service, and the greater Chicago area once had one of the largest concentrations of these aerial devices. Fire departments across the region used Snorkels in various configurations, often with different boom lengths and body styles. Before acquiring their 95-foot tower ladder from E-ONE in 1991, the Oak Brook Terrace Fire District operated an unusual 85-foot Snorkel mounted on a conventional GMC 7000 chassis. This was one of the few Snorkels in the area not built on a Ford C-Series, International cab-over, or custom chassis, making it a unique piece of firefighting history.

This 1964, 85' Pitman Snorkel preceded the E-ONE tower ladder in Oak Brook Terrace. Shown here at their old station, the body was built by Pierce on a GMC 7000 chassis with a V-12 engine. Known as Snorkel 86 at the time, it had a 1,000-GPM pump and carried 200 gallons of water. Larry Shapiro collection

The Oak Brook Terrace Fire District has a rich history of adapting to changing technologies and needs. From their early use of the rare GMC-based Snorkel to the modernization of their fleet with new E-ONE and Spartan/Marion equipment, the department continues to evolve while maintaining a strong commitment to public safety. Their station remains a vital part of the community, serving residents with professionalism and dedication.

Polyimide PI Machined Part

Polyimide PI has the characteristics of high and low temperature resistance (long-term use temperature -269~400℃), high friction resistance, chemical stability, mechanical toughness, natural lubrication and high temperature insulation. It is an ideal material for a wide range of applications in aerospace, electronic communications, automotive industry and many other fields.
Polyimide PI excels in the following aspects.
High-temperature stability: PI materials can maintain stable physical and chemical properties in high-temperature environments, its long-term use of temperature can be as high as 300 ° C or more, part of the high-performance PI short-term can be more than 450 ° C to maintain stability, which makes the PI comb in the need for high-temperature resistance of precision equipment in the performance of excellent.
Excellent mechanical properties: PI material has high strength, high modulus and good toughness, so that PI can withstand greater stress and deformation but not easy to damage, suitable for high precision and stability requirements of the occasion.
Low dielectric constant and loss: PI materials have a low dielectric constant and dielectric loss, which is particularly important for high-frequency circuits and microwave devices, can reduce the energy loss in the signal transmission process, improve the efficiency of signal transmission.
Good chemical stability: PI materials have excellent corrosion resistance to most organic solvents and chemicals, which can maintain stable performance in harsh chemical environments and extend the service life of equipment.
DuPont™ Vespel® Polyimide parts and shapes
HONY Plastic is an industry leader in Vespel® Machining and Micromachining. We are able to maintain tolerances, create features and produce parts that even the material manufacturers deem impossible. By using high speed spindles capable of turning at 30,000 RPM, tightly controlled work envelopes and cutting edge work holding systems, HONY Plastic can machine components from the most simple part to the most intricate part on any of the 85 machines in our facility.
Tolerances to +/- .00025” (0.006 mm)
Hole Diameters to 0.003” (0.076 mm)
While DuPont can supply finished machined parts, you can easily do your own machining using VESPEL shapes, DuPont™ Vespel® shapes are relatively easy to machine because of their inherent mechanical strength, stiffness and dimensional stability at machining temperatures. In addition, they can bemachined with standard metalworking equipment to produce parts to tolerances once considered too close for plastic materials. In most cases, the techniques used in machining metals are directly applicable.
