Wärtsilä receives the matching order for LNG ship

Recently, the Wärtsilä Group has signed an agreement with Hoegh LNG of Norway to provide equipment and maintenance contracts for Hoegh LNG's Floating Storage Regasification Unit (FSRU) and LNG vessels. The contract includes construction for Samsung Heavy Industries and Hyundai Heavy Industries. The 170,000 cubic meters LNG ship and FSRU offer the latest regasification technology, Wärtsilä dual fuel engines and technical management. The contract was signed in the first quarter of 2017.

Samsung Heavy Industries and Hyundai Heavy Industries are building two 170,000 cubic meters LNG ships for Höegh LNG in Norway. Each ship will be powered by four Wartsila 50DF dual fuel engines. Hoegh LNG also has three orders for three 170,000 cubic meters LNG ships at Samsung Heavy Industries.
It is reported that these two LNG ships will also use Wärtsilä's latest regasification technology to operate as FSRU. Wärtsilä's regasification solutions for these LNG vessels represent Wärtsilä's latest developments in this field. Wärtsilä's regasification solution is based on the indirect heating and re-vaporization system using seawater and ethylene glycol, which is lighter and has less floor space than earlier propane-based heating systems. By using seawater as the opposite of steam heating solutions, CO2 emissions will be significantly reduced.
In addition, since the solution will be provided as a complete module, it will make it easier to install. The typical regasification project is worth between 20 and 40 million Euros based on the size, scope of application, capacity and operating profile of the equipment.
Under the new five-year technology management agreement, Wärtsilä will support the existing eight LNG ships of the Hoegh LNG fleet in Norway and two LNG ships under construction. Technical Management Protocol services include Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) to optimize the availability, reliability and performance of Wärtsilä engines. The agreement also includes maintenance plans and consulting services that combine the combined technical expertise of Wärtsilä and the availability experts.
