**Remembering Glenn Bennett Jr.**
It's hard to believe that Glenn Bennett Jr., a beloved figure in our community, has left us. Many of our readers here in Three Lakes, Wisconsin, and beyond knew Glenn personally. Some might have crossed paths with him during his days as a fireman in Northfield, Illinois, or through his work delivering fire trucks for Seagrave across the United States. For those who were fortunate enough to know him, Glenn was more than just a face; he was a constant source of warmth, humor, and kindness.
In April 2016, we shared an article about a serious accident involving Glenn. He was hospitalized far from home but managed to return to Wisconsin, where he continued his recovery. Unfortunately, despite everyone's best efforts, Glenn passed away on November 4, 2018, at his home in Three Lakes, surrounded by loved ones. He was 67 years old. Born on August 25, 1951, in Evanston, Illinois, Glenn spent much of his life giving back to others, first as a firefighter for 37 years and later as an employee of FDW Seagrave. His contributions didn’t stop there—he also volunteered during the tragic events of 9/11, lending his support to recovery efforts.
Glenn’s passions extended beyond his professional achievements. He cherished time spent outdoors, whether it was tending to his yard, fishing with family, or enjoying winters in Florida. A true optimist, he had a knack for making people laugh and always found joy in simple pleasures. Though he is survived by his devoted wife, Anita, their daughters Lauren Madl, Barbara Bennett, and Ashley Edwards, along with two grandchildren, three brothers, and two sisters, Glenn will leave a void that can never truly be filled. He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn Bennett Sr. and Elizabeth Bennett.
A celebration of Glenn’s life took place at the Gaffney-Busha Funeral Home in Eagle River, Wisconsin, on November 10, 2018. Friends and family gathered to honor his memory, sharing stories and laughter, as they often did in life.
One such story comes from John Tobin, a close friend of Glenn’s. In a post on Facebook, John recounted an unforgettable encounter. “For every picture there is usually a story,†John wrote, “and this one is no exception.†It seems that one summer day, Glenn called John for help while stranded due to a mechanical issue on the Dan Ryan Expressway in Chicago. Despite being miles away, John rushed to assist, arriving just in time to fix the problem. As John recalled, Glenn’s ever-present smile and infectious energy made the whole experience feel less daunting. “Glenn was the biggest ambassador for Seagrave,†John noted, highlighting how his friend’s dedication and positivity left an indelible mark on everyone he met.
As we reflect on Glenn’s life, let’s not forget the lessons he taught us—about resilience, generosity, and finding joy even in challenging times. If you’re reading this, consider taking a moment to remember Glenn, perhaps sharing your own memories or sending thoughts of encouragement to those grieving his loss. Life threw many challenges at Glenn, but he faced them with courage and grace, leaving behind a legacy of love and inspiration.
Rest in peace, Glenn. You will forever be missed.
