Park Ridge 2-11 & EMS Box Alarm 2-12-12

Shortly before 11 AM this morning, the Park Ridge Fire Department received an automatic fire alarm at a four-story apartment building located at 500 Thames Parkway. As crews were en route, they received a call reporting a fire on the top floor. The incident was immediately upgraded to a working fire, and upon arrival, Battalion 35 observed flames bursting from the rear unit on the top floor. The building consists of three floors with ten units each. Within minutes of the initial Box Alarm, a second alarm was called, and an EMS Box Alarm was also issued due to the high number of residents.

The building lacked a standpipe system, so Park Ridge companies deployed a 2½-inch high-rise pack into the structure, which was fed through a top-floor window to Tower 36’s basket. They entered the fire unit with the line and managed to darken most of the fire.

DesPlaines Engine 62, stationed in the rear, was tasked with using its deck gun to knock down the flaming mansard roof before establishing a positive water supply. Morton Grove Engine (Quint) 4 served as the first aerial device in the rear.

The fire remained confined to the unit of origin, with only minor damage to adjacent apartments. After the fire was extinguished, hot spots lingered on the mansard roof, prompting crews to tear it apart to ensure full containment.

This was a well-coordinated response involving multiple departments and equipment. Thanks to the quick actions of all involved, the fire was brought under control without any injuries reported. The community remains grateful for the dedication of the firefighters who worked tirelessly to protect lives and property.
