Northbrook house fire 6-30-13

Sunday evening around 9:15 PM, the Northbrook Fire Department got a call about a fire at a residence located at 1337 Walters Avenue. By the time the fire trucks were on their way, local police had already reported an active fire at the location. The emergency response level was escalated to Code 4 (indicating a working fire) even before the first fire unit arrived. Along with Northbrook's resources, Glencoe sent an engine, Northfield dispatched a truck, and Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Ambulance 52 also joined the effort. When the firefighters arrived, they found flames in a second-floor bedroom that had spread into the attic and eventually vented through the roof. A Box Alarm was called in to bring additional support to cover the three Northbrook fire stations. Tim Olk and Larry Shapiro were present at the scene. Thanks to quick action, the fire was brought under control within 25 minutes. Fortunately, the family who lived there managed to evacuate safely before the situation worsened. Larry shared several photos of the firefighting equipment, and we’re expecting more images capturing the fire itself from Tim, who arrived shortly after the initial Northbrook teams. --- Here’s one image showing Northbrook Tower 12 positioned in front of the driveway. Larry Shapiro captured this shot. ![Northbrook Tower 12](#) As a safety precaution, the tower ladder was deployed once the fire broke through the roof. This is another photo taken by Larry Shapiro. ![Tower Ladder Deployment](#) For backup purposes, Northbrook Engine 12 was set up to supply water to the tower ladder in case the situation turned defensive. Another great capture by Larry Shapiro. ![Engine 12 Setup](#) Here’s a view of Northbrook Battalion 11, also photographed by Larry Shapiro. ![Battalion 11](#) Northbrook Engine 11, a Pierce Impel model, was stationed on a hydrant to provide water for the hand lines.
