Hi everyone,
This happened earlier today, around 11:30 AM on Wednesday. Engine 50 and Truck 18 arrived at 5039 S. Elizabeth and quickly called for a Still and Box alarm due to a fully involved 2.5-story wood-frame building. I got there about 30 minutes after they finished their primary search efforts and roughly 15 minutes after 2-2-5 struck the Box. Here are some pictures I took.
Engine 84 (using D547) and Engine 49 were operating in Sector 1 alongside Truck 18. Truck 18 climbed onto the roof to set things up. Engine 50 positioned itself in the alley next to the neighboring building at 5041 S. Elizabeth. Other units on the scene included Ambulance 1, Ambulance 57, Truck 51, Engine 39, Command Van 2-7-3, and an Assistant Deputy Fire Commissioner.
Here are some shots I captured:
- **Paramedic Field Chief 4-5-8**: This is a rare angle showing the field chief on-site.
- **Engine 49 with Lines Off**: Engine 49 was actively working the scene, with its hose lines deployed.
- **Truck 18 on the Roof**: Truck 18 made it to the roof to manage the situation from above.
- **Rare Shot of Engine 39 and Tower Ladder 39**: Both vehicles are mounted on HME chassis, which doesn’t happen often.
- **Engine 50 with Lines Off**: Another view of Engine 50 doing its job.
- **The House After the Fire**: This shows the aftermath of the blaze—the house looks quite damaged.
It’s always intense when something like this happens, but the firefighters did an incredible job managing the situation.
Take care,
Drew Gresik
