MVA with extrication and Haz Mat in Lyons, 4-21-19

Early Sunday morning on April 21, 2019, firefighters from Lyons were dispatched to the intersection of Forest View Terminal Drive and Harlem Avenue in response to a collision involving a car and a gasoline tanker. Upon arrival, they discovered that the car had been severely crushed, wedging itself completely underneath the massive tanker. Tragically, the driver of the car was found trapped inside, unable to free themselves. The emergency situation escalated quickly due to the potential danger posed by the spilled fuel and the presence of a highly flammable environment. In order to mitigate any risk of fire or explosion, a specialized Foam Task Force was urgently summoned from O'Hare Airport to provide support to the local firefighting teams already on the scene. This task force is equipped with advanced techniques and materials designed specifically to handle hazardous scenarios like this one. As the drama unfolded, several photos taken by Tim Olk captured the intense efforts being made by responders. These images show foam being carefully applied to cover the affected area, helping to neutralize the threat posed by the leaked gasoline. Another set of pictures, courtesy of Gordon J.
