**Connecting the Physical and Digital Worlds to Deliver Real-Time Operational Insights**
SAN RAFAEL, Calif., November 17, 2020 – At Autodesk University Virtual, Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK), announced the upcoming release of Autodesk Tandem. This innovative solution gathers project data from multiple sources, formats, and stages to form a comprehensive digital hub. This hub tracks asset data from design through operation—a true digital twin.
"Autodesk Tandem is now available. For the latest updates, check it out here," reads a recent announcement.
Autodesk Tandem bridges the gap between the physical and digital realms, offering an up-to-date representation of a model's actual state. It provides unique operational insights into buildings, facilities, bridges, or any structure, along with their individual components—such as HVAC systems, escalators, and electrical setups.

Throughout the project delivery lifecycle—from design to construction—buildings, facilities, and other physical structures generate vast amounts of data. Often, this data becomes disorganized or unused post-handover to owners and developers. However, building owners increasingly need digital data at handover since nearly 80% of an asset’s value is realized during operations.
"If critical information generated during design and construction vanishes at handover, owners stand to lose financially," says Nicolas Mangon, Vice President of AEC Business Strategy at Autodesk. "Autodesk Tandem is designed specifically to give owners and operators deeper insights into their completed projects, enabling smarter decision-making to enhance performance. We’re eager to onboard our customers into this beta."
With Autodesk Tandem, all project models converge on a unified platform, offering a digital overview alongside metadata for each asset. Architects, engineers, and contractors can thus fully support the digital handover process, providing owners with a digital twin of the final asset to explore all design and construction history. Leveraging nearly 25 years of expertise in intelligent 3D design and engineering, Autodesk considers Building Information Modeling (BIM) a key component of Autodesk Tandem.
"We're thrilled about Autodesk Tandem’s potential to provide a cohesive and actionable view of design and construction data as a digital twin for operations," said Marin Pastar, Global Technology Leader for Vertical Information Modeling at Jacobs. "A single source of truth for operations will help cut down on the overall cost of ownership and enable owners to maximize the benefits of BIM long after handover."
In October 2020, Autodesk joined the Digital Twin Consortium as a Founding Member. This organization unites members dedicated to integrating digital twins across their operations while sharing best practices. Additionally, Autodesk is part of the Open Design Alliance, a non-profit tech consortium supporting design file formats. These affiliations reflect Autodesk’s commitment to fostering openness, collaborating with peers to drive industry progress, and enhancing the user experience in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) sector.
