The Techstars Alabama EnergyTech Accelerator has officially launched its fourth class, marking a significant milestone with the largest cohort yet. This year’s group of 12 startups represents a diverse mix of innovation, coming from nine U.S. states and even Latvia. The program, based in Birmingham, will run for 13 weeks and focus on intensive mentoring and support to help these companies scale and succeed.
Since its inception in 2020, the accelerator has grown steadily, now having supported 42 startups across the globe. Under the leadership of previous Managing Director Nate Schmidt and Program Manager Brooke Gillis, the program helped create over 200 jobs, with 32 remaining in Alabama. Matthew Jaeh and Rae’Mah Henderson have now taken the reins, aiming to build on this strong foundation.
“We’re excited to continue the momentum that Nate and Brooke started,†said Jaeh. “The startups that have gone through our program are among the top 1% of applicants worldwide. Many of them have chosen to make Alabama their home, and we want to keep building the future of energy right here.â€
Among this year’s standout startups is Ai-Ops from Mobile, Alabama, which develops AI solutions for industrial control systems. BlueTanks, based in Charlotte, North Carolina, helps EV drivers find the most convenient charging stations. Clever Offsets, from New York, offers data-driven insights into the carbon offset market.
Other notable participants include EarthABC, which provides an open-access climate portal for businesses, and EV Safe Charge, which developed a robotic mobile charging platform. Grid Discovery, from Hoboken, New Jersey, creates software for microgrid planning, while Infranergy, based in Miami, focuses on solar and battery storage solutions.
Maverick IQ from Atlanta integrates IoT and software to improve operational efficiency, and Meredot, from Riga, Latvia, offers wireless charging for micromobility. Pitch Aeronautics, from Boise, Idaho, develops wind-stabilized drones for remote tasks, while ScoutIT, based in Raleigh, North Carolina, supports the EV battery circular economy.
SplitEV, from New York, provides a subscription service for EV charging access, helping both drivers and charger owners. The accelerator, supported by major local partners like Alabama Power and the University of Alabama, continues to be a hub for clean energy innovation.
As part of the global Techstars network, the program invests in over 600 companies each year, offering entrepreneurs access to a vast network of mentors, investors, and alumni. With its growing influence, the Techstars Alabama EnergyTech Accelerator is shaping the future of sustainable energy.
