The Techstars Alabama EnergyTech Accelerator officially kicked off its 2023 class, marking the largest cohort in the program’s history. This year’s group includes 12 startups — an increase from the usual 10 — representing nine U.S. states and Latvia. All will participate in a rigorous 13-week mentorship program based in Birmingham, Alabama.
Now in its fourth year since launching in 2020, the accelerator has welcomed 42 companies over the past three years. Under the leadership of Managing Director Nate Schmidt and Program Manager Brooke Gillis, the program helped create over 200 jobs, with 32 remaining in the state. Matthew Jaeh and Rae’Mah Henderson, who now lead the initiative, are committed to continuing that growth and impact.

The 2023 class features a diverse range of companies tackling key challenges in clean energy, sustainability, and smart technology. Among them is Ai-Ops from Mobile, Alabama, which develops AI solutions for industrial control systems. BlueTanks, based in Charlotte, North Carolina, helps EV drivers find the best charging stations. Clever Offsets from New York offers insights into the carbon offset market, while EarthABC from Cleveland provides a climate portal to help businesses achieve sustainability quickly.
EV Safe Charge, located in Los Angeles, has developed a robotic EV charging platform called Ziggy. Grid Discovery from Hoboken, New Jersey, assists engineers and city planners in designing microgrids. Infranergy in Miami focuses on solar and battery storage to reduce energy costs and promote clean energy access. Maverick IQ from Atlanta integrates IoT and software to cut operational costs.
Meredot, from Riga, Latvia, offers wireless charging for micromobility vehicles. Pitch Aeronautics in Boise, Idaho, develops wind-stabilized drones for remote tasks. ScoutIT from Raleigh, North Carolina, supports the EV battery circular economy. SplitEV from New York connects EV drivers with private charging networks.
Based in Birmingham, the Techstars Alabama EnergyTech Accelerator supports startups working in energy efficiency, climate tech, and clean energy.
