Older engines leave the area

Bill Friedrich has shared news about two local fire departments that have sold their retired fire engines. These vehicles, once vital to their communities, are now being relocated to new homes. The first engine is a 1993 E-One Cyclone from the Addison Fire Department. It has been sold and will soon be shipped to Argentina. This unit was equipped with a Detroit Series 60 engine, an Allison HD740 transmission, and a Hale pump capable of 1,250 GPM with a 750-gallon water tank. The engine served Addison for many years before being retired. A photo of the unit can be seen below, taken by Bill Friedrich.

The second sale involves a 1994 HME/Luverne rescue pumper from the Flossmoor Fire Department. This unit has been sold to the Soldier Township Fire Department near Topeka, Kansas. The engine was used in various emergency response scenarios and will now serve a new community. Here's a photo of the vehicle, also captured by Bill Friedrich.

Both of these sales were facilitated by B&P Fire Apparatus, a well-known dealer in fire equipment. These transactions highlight the ongoing movement of fire apparatus across the country, often finding new purpose in different communities. It’s always interesting to see where these historic units end up next.
