New home for Wilmette tower ladder

I just heard from a friend who works in emergency services about an interesting story involving a fire truck! The former Wilmette Tower Ladder 27 has been given a new home and identity with the Stuart Fire Department in Stuart, Iowa. They’ve renumbered it as Tower Ladder 23. Isn’t that cool? It’s like giving an old piece of equipment a second chance to serve. Speaking of which, I came across some photos online showing the transition. In one picture, you can see members of the Stuart Fire Department posing alongside their counterparts from the Wilmette Fire Department. They look pretty proud to have acquired such a reliable vehicle. The next image shows the actual truck itself—now looking sharp and ready for action under its new number, Tower Ladder 23. It’s amazing how much character these older trucks can still hold onto after all those years on the road. There’s also another shot taken by Larry Shapiro that captures the essence of this handover perfectly. You can tell there was a lot of care put into making sure this truck would continue serving its purpose effectively. For anyone interested in firefighting history or just curious about what goes into maintaining these essential vehicles, it’s definitely worth checking out. It really makes me appreciate how communities come together to support each other like this. Whether it’s through donations, partnerships, or simply sharing resources, these kinds of stories remind us how important teamwork is—not just within departments but across different towns too. Plus, saving money by reusing equipment means more funds can go towards other critical needs like training programs or safety upgrades. Definitely something worth cheering for!
