New apparatus for Wheeling

I just got back from the Wheeling Village Board meeting where they unveiled some exciting new additions to their emergency fleet. Larry Shapiro was there, and he sent me these photos. The highlight of the evening was definitely the brand-new Rosenbauer fire engine and tower ladder. This marks the third tower ladder for the Wheeling Fire Department, and it’s also the first rear-mounted one they’ve had in 48 years! The community seemed really impressed, and it was great to see everyone so excited about the new equipment. Alongside the fire vehicles, they also showcased a fresh graphics package for the police cars. It’s clear that Wheeling is investing in modernizing their emergency services, which is fantastic news for residents. I’m particularly fond of the history behind the fire department. Did you know that they recently replaced their old Sutphen aerial tower, which had been in service since 1968? It was originally lime green but ended up being painted white later on. Now, they have a state-of-the-art Rosenbauer Cobra tower ladder that looks absolutely incredible. One of the standout photos Larry captured was of the new Rosenbauer Commander fire engine, known as Wheeling Engine 42. It’s equipped with a powerful 2016 2000/500/50/20 engine setup, making it one of the most advanced units in the area. And let’s not forget about the new tower ladder, Wheeling Tower 24, which boasts a massive 100-foot Cobra RM ladder system. These updates will undoubtedly make a huge difference when responding to emergencies. The village trustees were clearly proud of these acquisitions, and it was inspiring to see how much effort goes into keeping the community safe. I couldn’t help but snap a few pictures myself—there’s something special about seeing such dedication to public service. Overall, it was an unforgettable evening filled with pride and anticipation for what lies ahead for Wheeling’s first responders.
