Chicago Still & Box Alarm fire, 2-15-16

Monday morning (2/15) was a hectic one for the South Side fire departments. Around 1:30 AM, a fatal accident occurred near 85th and the Dan Ryan Expressway. Just around that time, Engine 49 was dispatched to 43rd and Packers for an automatic alarm. The initial report indicated a light haze inside an industrial building, but it quickly escalated into a still and box situation as stacks of cardboard caught fire. Fortunately, the sprinkler system managed to contain the blaze, and firefighters stayed on site for over three hours. Later that morning, at 3:45 AM, Engine 101 was sent to a working fire at 76th and Artesian. An hour later, another still and box situation developed at 5141 S. Princeton, where some of these photos were captured. Due to battalion chiefs being tied up at the previous incidents, Battalion 7 took charge of this fire. The area had several frozen hydrants, and unfortunately, the flames spread to the neighboring occupied home on the "D" side. The original structure was a wooden house that had been converted into a church. While I couldn’t confirm, I believe the spare engine on-site was Engine 122, while Engine 5 served as the other box engine. These images really capture the challenges firefighters face during winter blazes, especially when dealing with frozen hydrants and extreme weather conditions. It’s clear how much effort goes into ensuring safety and minimizing damage, even in such adverse circumstances. The dedication of these crews is truly commendable, as they work tirelessly through the night to protect their communities. Here are some of the photos I took that night: ![Fire from the attic of a house at night](src="") ![Chicago fire scene at night](src="") ![Chicago FD Engine 60](src="") ![Fire hose in the snow](src="") ![Chicago FD Engine 16](src="") ![Spare fire engine at fire scene](src="") ![Firefighters with hose line at night fire scene](src="") ![Firemen overhaul after back porches burned in Chicago](src="") ![Chicago fire scene at night](src="") Each photo tells its own story about the intensity and teamwork involved in firefighting operations.

Accelerator -ZDEC-80GE

Accelerator-ZDEC-80GE is a type of rubber accelerator that is used in the manufacturing process of rubber products. It contains the active ingredient zinc diethyldithiocarbamate (ZDEC) at a concentration of 80%, which is pre-dispersed in a polymer carrier.

Rubber accelerators are chemicals that are added to rubber compounds to increase the rate of vulcanization or curing. The use of Accelerator-ZDEC-80GE offers several benefits over using ZDEC in its powdered form. Firstly, it is easier to handle and incorporate into the rubber compound, as it is already pre-dispersed. This can save time and reduce the risk of operator error. Additionally, the pre-dispersed form provides a more consistent distribution of the active ingredient throughout the rubber, which can result in more uniform curing and better mechanical properties in the final product.
