Friday morning around 7:30 AM, the Northbrook Fire Department received multiple calls reporting heavy smoke coming from a vacant home at 1017 Shermer Road. Upon arrival, first responders found thick smoke filling the entire ranch-style house, with the source of the fire clearly coming from the basement. The incident was escalated to a Code 4, indicating a working fire, and additional units were called in from Glencoe and Northfield to support the operation.
Once the fire was under control, an investigator's box alarm was activated, bringing in fire investigators from neighboring Division 3 departments to assist Northbrook in determining the cause of the blaze. The scene was chaotic, with crews working quickly to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading further.
