Gene injection promises to replace electronic pacemaker

According to a study released on Wednesday, scientists created "biological pacemakers" that beat the heart by transplanting genes and succeeded in pigs. Scientists at the Los Angeles Cedars Heart Institute are dedicated to responding to cardiac rhythm disorders by genetically using heart cells from groups without the use of electronic pacemakers. "Maybe one day, we may be able to save lives by injecting gene replacement genes from heart cells," said Dr. Eugenio, director of the Cardiac Familial Arrhythmia Clinic.
Each year, an estimated 300,000 Americans have pacemakers to control their arrhythmia, but infants in the womb with cardiac rhythm disorders cannot install pacemakers. While some adults may have device infections, injecting to regulate heartbeats and using non-invasive means may make the patient more likely to be cured.
After 12 years of development research, the scientists successfully found solutions that inject a gene called TBX18. In animal experiments, pigs used had "complete heart block" disease, in which the sinus node of the heart became obstructed and the heart rate slowed. When the scientists injected the TBX18 gene into the pig's heart through the catheter, the pigs receiving the gene had a significantly faster heart rate on the second day, and the heart rate accelerated for two weeks, while the changes in circadian rhythm and physical activity were normal.
Scientists explained that they transform the normal heart cells into the reprogramming state of somatic cells in another more specific type of heart cell, inject the gene into the system, and change the cells into the embryonic stem cell-like state. Scientists say they still have more research and testing to do before they can test their research on humans. Their goal is to begin clinical trials within three years.
