It is with deep sorrow that we share the news of a beloved friend and dedicated fire service enthusiast, Don Feipel. For many years, Don served as a Fire Commissioner for the Mokena Fire Protection District, where he made a lasting impact through his passion for firefighting and his commitment to the community. Beyond his professional role, Don was a passionate photographer who captured the beauty and history of fire apparatus across the country. His photographs have appeared on numerous fire truck photo websites, and he was well-known among fellow enthusiasts for his dedication and talent.
Don passed away on Thursday, just nine days short of his 65th birthday. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. A visitation will be held at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, located at 102 E. Francis Road in New Lenox, IL 60451, on Tuesday, June 26, 2012, from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The funeral service will take place the following day, Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at 10:00 AM at the same location. Interment will be at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations in Don’s memory to mesothelioma research.
A group photo captures Don and his friends during a day of fire apparatus photography in the Chicago suburbs. These moments reflect not only his love for the craft but also the friendships he built along the way.
