GE Plastics has introduced an innovative process that transforms 85% of post-consumer PET waste into high-quality PBT resin. The resulting material performs just as well as traditional PBT, offering a sustainable alternative without compromising on quality. The new ValoxiQ PBT and XenoyiQ PC/PBT grades are made from recycled PET bottles and films, marking a significant step forward in the circular economy.
The process involves breaking down the recovered PET through depolymerization to create oligomers, which are then reacted with butanediol to produce the final PBT product. This method not only reduces reliance on virgin materials but also lowers the environmental footprint of the manufacturing process. GE plans to launch four ValoxiQ and two XenoyiQ variants by the end of the fourth quarter, targeting key industries such as automotive, electronics, and consumer goods.
With a competitive pricing structure, these new materials are designed to meet the growing demand for eco-friendly alternatives. The company is positioning itself as a leader in sustainable polymer solutions, aiming to drive industry-wide adoption of recycled content in high-performance applications. As more companies seek to reduce their carbon footprints, GE’s latest innovation could play a crucial role in shaping the future of plastics.
