IEEE: Strongly promote smart grid technology

The IEEE has created a new website that brings together all the information about the smart electric grids from the group's community. The portal is part of the IEEE Smart Grid initiative, which is designed to work with the organization to promote a digital, networked power supply system and services.

"The smart grid is a very" interdisciplinary "technology;" Wanda Reder, chairman of the IEEE Smart Grid Working Group, said: "Our working group encompasses all areas related to the technology but requires establishing a communication pipeline between the teams that will All meetings, essays and standard information are linked. "

The site lists smart grid-related projects among hundreds of the IEEE's existing standards, including the IEEE 2030 team initiative since last year; the team expects to release a draft Smart Grid Design Guide in early 2011. The 2030 team will meet at the end of January at a meeting in Detroit, USA, where it will discuss electric vehicle related issues with the SAE J2293 working group.

Last December, the IEEE formed P1815 working group to develop a distributed network protocol based on the widely used SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) system for power supply / water supply networks. Formal standards are expected to be announced by December 2010 and pass the P1815 specification.
