Magnetic Separator Overview

Magnetic separation is a continuous process used to separate magnetic materials from non-magnetic ones. The mixture passes through a strong magnetic field where the magnetic particles are attracted to the separator surface and discharged into a chute. This method is widely used in various industries for material processing.

The efficiency of the magnetic separator depends on the magnet strength and conveyor speed. The magnet length is designed so that magnetic material stays in the magnetic field for 0.4 to 0.5 seconds. Strontium Ferrite permanent blocks are used to achieve a surface gauss of 2500.

The gap between the magnet and the conveyor can be adjusted, with a smaller gap improving separation efficiency. Individual drives are used for both the separator and conveyor. Adjustable stainless steel splitters are placed between chutes to ensure smooth operation. A vibrating feeder with two unbalance motors helps spread the material evenly across the belt for better separation. Belt-type separators are available for widths ranging from 650 mm to 2000 mm.

Operating Principle
The magnetic and non-magnetic material passes under the magnetic separator via a conveyor. The material is evenly fed onto the conveyor using a feeder. Under the influence of the magnetic field, magnetic material is attracted upwards toward the magnet face. It is carried along the cleated belt of the separator and continuously discharged into the magnet chute. Non-magnetic material is carried by the bottom conveyor and discharged into the non-magnet chute.
