At approximately 2:50 PM on Saturday, the Dolton Fire Department responded to a large fire at a storage shed on a vacant industrial property located at 142nd and Cottage Grove. The photos in this gallery were taken about an hour into the incident. Firefighters faced challenges due to limited access to working hydrants along that stretch of road, which led to long hose lines from available water sources.
Calumet City Tower 309 and Lansing Tower 107 were both dispatched to the scene. Riverdale Engine 836 was positioned at the corner of 142nd and Cottage Grove, providing water to Burnham Engine 2016. South Holland Engine 669 was also on site at the entrance of the complex, with a nearby hydrant. Phoenix Engine 1708 was seen in staging, and its history as the old Chicago Engine 72 is still visible on the door.
A request for HAZMAT support was made, and the incident was eventually upgraded to a third alarm—though this occurred after I had left the scene. These images capture the intensity and scale of the fire, showing the efforts of multiple departments working together under challenging conditions.
