Dan McInerney captured the Still and Box Alarm on Sheridan Road yesterday and shared several photos from the scene with his observations:
At approximately 2:45 PM on Friday, the 9th Battalion received a still alarm for a fire at 5757 N. Sheridan (later corrected to 5747 N. Sheridan). The Fire Alarm Operator initially classified it as a working fire before upgrading it to a still in a high-rise. As the 9th Battalion approached the corner of Sheridan from Hollywood, they called for a still and box alarm. Upon arrival, they found heavy fire and smoke coming from the third floor of a three-story townhome measuring 75 by 125 feet. The building directly exposed a 30-story high-rise to the south. Engine 70 deployed their leader line and quickly controlled the fire, while Truck 47 used a ladder from the southern parking lot to access the roof. The still in the high-rise response was held back to prevent any impact on the stairwells and to avoid making the high-rise an exposure. The staging area was set up at Hollywood and Sheridan, which is the northern exit of Lake Shore Drive (LSD), causing significant traffic congestion on a Friday afternoon, especially as the air show was winding down.
