On September 24, 2011, Chongqing Qingling Company and Japan Isuzu Corporation held a signing ceremony for the cooperation in R&D and production of heavy trucks and heavy-duty engines.
According to the agreement, both parties will build heavy-duty vehicles and heavy-duty engine production bases in Chongqing on the basis of Qingling’s production of light and medium commercial vehicles, develop sales for China and overseas markets, and participate in the competition in the heavy truck market. With the implementation of the agreement, Qingling will become a manufacturer of light, medium and heavy duty commercial vehicles. In fact, prior to this, Qingling also had heavy truck products. This cooperation focused on the joint development of new heavy trucks and engines.
Qingling has cooperated with Isuzu for 25 years and has formed a good cooperative relationship. Especially in the past five years, Qingling has made significant progress in vehicle production, engine production and sales, and models. The addition of the heavy-duty truck and heavy-duty vehicle engine business signals that the Qingling production system is a combination of light, medium and heavy-duty systems, becoming one of the most important commercial vehicle automobile plants in China.
After the Great East Japan Earthquake, many Japanese companies began to shift their business outwards. To this end, Chongqing has set up a Japanese Industrial Park specifically in the Liangjiang New Area and welcomes Japanese companies to Chongqing.
