Pirelli tires This project is an automated system for detecting and analyzing finished products using artificial vision and automation technology. The visual management of product quality is the most professional and repetitive process in the industrial production process. This is the reason that inspired Pirelli engineers to develop this project.
Until today, the quality monitoring of tire products is still performed manually. For the tires, each finished product needs to pass through the naked eye through the worker and carefully examine the inside and outside to ensure that no visible flaws are present. However, artificial quality monitoring has a series of drawbacks, including repeated operations, it is difficult to define problems, and it is slow to keep up with the rhythm of industrialized production.
The CVA tire visual control project utilizes artificial vision technology to automate the inspection process to replace the existing artificial tire quality monitoring. This advanced system incorporates automated mechanisms with higher resolution and faster response times. The computer system will make judgments by analyzing the collected tire data information through an accurate image vision system.
This project was born in Pirelli's R&D center, its laboratory in Milan, and also benefited from the university's scientific research strengths, including the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Bologna and the Department of Automation and Information Technology at the Polytechnic University of Turin.
