In the big independent strategy of Dongfeng, the three brands of Dongfeng Fengshen, Dongfeng Liuqi and Dongfeng Fengdu are regarded as the main force of Dongfeng's independent passenger vehicle brand. However, from the first five months of this year, Dongfeng Fengshen’s sales have declined year-on-year, and the sales growth of Dongfeng’s style has also appeared weak. In contrast, the growth of Dongfeng Liuqi is the most prominent among the three. According to the National Passenger Vehicle Market Information Association, from January to May this year, Dongfeng Liuqi sold a total of 102,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 30.8%. However, the short board of Liuqi still exists, and its product line expansion has been limited due to its long-term dependence on purchased engines.
According to the reporter's understanding, the engine project will serve other independent brands under the group after quenching the shortcomings of Dongfeng Liuqi. Some people pointed out that this may mean that Dongfeng's large independent synergy strategy is moving from the previous marketing synergy to the supply of parts.

It is understood that the B engine project is located in the Dongfeng Liuqi passenger car base of Liuzhou Automobile City, Guangxi, and mainly produces EW series 2.0L, 2.3L and 1.8T displacement engines. The project will be planned and constructed in phases, and finally the total production capacity of 400,000 units will be matched with the whole vehicle. The total investment of the first phase is 400 million yuan, and the proposed construction area is 30,000 square meters. It is planned to start construction in August 2014 and be completed and put into production in September 2015, forming a production capacity of 100,000 units/year.
According to sources close to Dongfeng, the EW series is the engine of Peugeot Citroen. The 2.0-liter and 2.3-liter products have been installed on the Dongfeng Citroen C5. The 1.8T products have not yet been put into production, and will be installed on the new C5 in the future. .
Some analysts believe that after the introduction of the B engine project, Dongfeng Liuqi's product line will also be further extended. At present, the volume of the main products of Fengxing Lingzhi and Fengjing Jingyi is concentrated at 1.5 liters and 1.6 liters. With the commissioning of “self-produced” engines, the cost of supporting engines in the future will be reduced. Dongfeng Liuqi can also rely on the engine products in Project B. Introduce a richer product line.
Production base is difficult to coordinate. It is reported that Dongfeng Group's positioning of this engine base is not limited to this. Insiders of Dongfeng Group said that in addition to solving the problem of Liuqi Powertrain, this project will also consider the use of other independent brands in Dongfeng Group in the future to enhance the synergy effect of key components of Dongfeng's own brand.
In fact, since Dongfeng released the “D300” big independent plan in 2011, it tried to start the marketing “collaborative” mode from the group level, and the products of Dongfeng Fengshen, Dongfeng Liuqi and Dongfeng Fengdu were in accordance with the demand. Commonly establish channels to seek common development by creating a “collaborative store”. Relevant persons of Dongfeng Company said that due to the low versatility of parts and the inconsistent brand business policies, this work has not been promoted.
The implementation of Project B was interpreted by some industry insiders as Dongfeng to proceed to promote collaborative work on the core component supply level. It is understood that the B engine project is carried out in 3 N mode, that is, three main departments (including Group Technology Center, Shenlong Company, Liuqi Company) and several functional departments cooperate with the goal of creating a sample project of “Great Synergy” of Dongfeng Group. .
