Ecochlor ballast water management system won the USCG type approval

Recently, Ecochlor's low-energy chemical injection ballast water management system was approved by the US Coast Guard (USCG). It became the first ballast water treatment system manufactured by a USCG-certified US company and the first USCG-certified ballast water treatment system using chemical injection technology.

Ecochlor's ballast water management system uses a two-step process, including filtration and chlorine dioxide treatment, to effectively treat all aquatic invasive species regardless of turbidity, salinity or temperature of the water.

Tom Perlich, founder and president of Ecochlor, said, “As one of the only five companies in the world to receive USCG type approvals, we have been approved to confirm that our products meet the most stringent testing requirements in the world.”

It is reported that the processing capacity of Ecochlor's ballast water management system is generally 8000 cubic meters / hour, its power consumption is only 12kWh, the maximum power consumption is only 35kWh. The system approved by the US has a processing capacity of 500-16200 cubic meters per hour.

Ecochlor CEO Steve Candito added, “Not only does our power consumption be low, but our system can handle all types of water efficiently.”

Another important feature of this ballast water management system is its space saving, a modular ballast water management system that provides greater flexibility in a compact space. Equipped with a high-pressure double-wall storage tank, flow controller and vacuum mixing chamber to produce chlorine dioxide as needed. Typically, a ship requires only one treatment system to use up to three chemical injection points that can be connected to the ship's ballast water lines.

In addition to the type approval of the US Coast Guard, the system was also approved by the IMO type, as well as the approval of Lloyd's Register of Shipping, American Bureau of Shipping, Japan Classification Society, French Classification Society, and Russian Classification Society.

Up to now, in addition to Optimarin, OceanSaver AS, Alfa Laval and Qingdao Shuangrui, Ecochlor is the fifth product to receive USCG type approval.
