Chicago 4-11 Alarm Fire 12-29-12 (pt 1)

A major commercial fire broke out today at 2441 W. 21st Street after 1 p.m. First arriving units found a three-story, brick commercial factory/warehouse fully involved in flames. The situation quickly escalated to a 4-11 alarm, with an EMS Plan I and a Haz Mat Level I response. The building was located between railroad tracks on the west and the elevated CTA tracks to the north, which were shut down for several hours. EMS operations were secured by around 4 p.m., but some companies remained on scene throughout the night. Two Snorkels (Squad 1 and the reserve Snorkel) were working alongside four tower ladders (5, 10, 39, and 54). There's a lot of coverage from multiple contributors, and we'll be posting more updates tonight and tomorrow. **From Josh Boyajian:** Even though I wasn’t on scene, I thought I’d share these photos taken from Laramie and Ogden in Cicero of the massive header! I took some pictures from the 4-11 alarm at 2441 W. 21st. More will come soon. The header was huge—visible all the way in Berwyn on Ogden Avenue. When I arrived near the fire, police had set up a four-block perimeter. Staging was at 22nd and Western. Traffic was terrible. Here are some shots of the header and Engine 113 speeding down 22nd Street. Great job by everyone on the scene!
