GE Plastics has introduced an innovative process that transforms 85% of post-consumer PET waste into high-quality PBT resin. The resulting material performs on par with conventional PBT products, making it a viable and sustainable alternative. This breakthrough is reflected in their new product lines—ValoxiQ PBT and XenoyiQ PC/PBT—which are specifically formulated using recycled PET bottles and films.
The process involves depolymerizing the recovered PET into oligomers, which are then reacted with butanediol to create the final PBT polymer. This closed-loop approach not only reduces reliance on virgin materials but also supports circular economy goals. GE plans to launch four variants of ValoxiQ and two versions of XenoyiQ by the end of the fourth quarter this year.
With competitive pricing and strong performance, these materials are well-suited for industries such as automotive, electronics, and consumer goods. By integrating recycled content without compromising quality, GE is setting a new standard in sustainable polymer production.
